It's a bit rash to say "only" Houdini could do better. I do agree though that Houdini probably would have been a better manager of West Ham than Sam has been at times.

Ernest, there's a lot of people like myself who have got to West Ham religiously for years but now struggle to summon the enthusiasm to attend a game for which the ticker is already bought and paid. I live a 5 minute drive for the ground and there's home games this year where I've forced myself to go to the game With no sense of anticipation.
The football is soul destroying. It absolutely drains any enthusiasm from you. If the club aren't careful they could lose a lot of support, and once you're out of the habit of going, it might not be easy to get them back in.

"Sam deserves another season" - sorry Ernest mate he forfeited that with his stubborn tactics in playing Nolan at the detriment of the team - ist no wonder Song has not had a good second half of this season or Noble because they have to carry Nolan when he plays.
Since 1st Jan 2015 we've played 17 games won 16 points from a possible 51 points, so lost 35 points...
3 wins plus 7 draws.
The THREE wins have been
3-0 Hull (4 months ago),
1-0 Sunderland (88th min),
1-0 Burnley (Penalty playing against 10 men for 70 mins).
Kevin Nolan has scored 1 goal this season (2nd Dec 2014) in 28 Premiership appearances - 27 hours and 6 minutes of playing time
A TOP manager would never sacrifice the better of the team to dovetail in his favourite player, especially when it's so obvious that the player is not contributing but handicapping the teams main engine - the midfield.

The owners won't give Allardyce a new contract. He wants 3 years, they only want to offer him a year rolling contract. Bilic will be the new manager.

Sam deserves another season. That is a rational view that most people share. I am not on a wind-up and am a very intelligent bloke. My position neither overstates his achievements this campaign nor disregards the disappointment of many recent results.
But the chance to have a sensible debate on here is long gone. Unless I really feel like it and someone is at my level for sensible thought and perspective, I am going to sign off for the night.
Experience tells me I won't be required again for comment this evening although I do feel better for reminding the silent majority that they aren't alone.

That's what Allardyce sees as success escaping relegation that's all he aims for! Completely undermined potentially a seventh or even 6th place finish with his team selections and substitutions
